Newly sworn-in officers
Last week, five new officers and a 911 operator became sworn members of the Coral Gables Police Department (CGPD) and four officers were promoted to varying ranks. This latest ceremony is part of the ongoing commitment to strengthen the City's public safety team, which has resulted in CGPD having the lowest vacancy rate in 10 years.
In 2016, among strong competition from other law enforcement agencies from all over the country looking for the same talent, Coral Gables received only 387 job applications, resulting in 11 officers being hired.
In 2017, after a year-long effort of networking and recruitment in all 50 states, having a consistent presence in 584 colleges and universities, and implementing an aggressive advertising and marketing recruitment campaign, the City of Coral Gables quadrupled the number of applications received to 1,447. The results are in and they're impressive.
