R.A.D. (Rape Aggression Defense) is a women’s self-defense program focusing on awareness, risk reduction and practical physical techniques. The philosophy and techniques of this program were designed specifically for women to teach how to defend against the types of assault against women. Classes are physically demanding, but not beyond the ability of any dedicated woman. The Basic Physical Defense Program consists of 12 hours of instruction that include: In-depth discussion and exploration of risk reduction and awareness strategies, practical physical defense techniques, drills that incorporate various techniques learned into real-life scenarios and a final simulation exercise. Participation in this program allows free lifetime return and practice policy for any future R.A.D. programs.
The Coral Gables Police Department is proud to offer women the opportunity to empower themselves by attending six group classes which consist of practical physical techniques and drills as well as physical simulations in a controlled environment while wearing protective gear. The content of the classes builds upon itself; therefore, attendance is required.
Class size is limited to 24 participants (minimum age of is 12). A minimum of 15 participants must attend the first class to avoid course cancellation. Those wishing to participate in a future Advanced R.A.D. program offered by this agency must participate in all the classes.
