- August 14 - September 12: GableStage at the Biltmore Hotel presents the Fifty Words by Michael Weller. When their young son is away on his first sleepover, a married couple has their first night alone together in years. Will they renew a vital spark that's been nearly smothered - or will provisional civility explode into fiery chaos? The play is an expansive look at modern marriage which is alternately funny and frightening. Performances take place Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. On Thursdays and Sunday nights, tickets cost $37.50, Friday nights and Sunday matinees cost $42.50, and tickets for performances on Saturdays costs $45. - September 2 - 19: New Theatre begins its 25th anniversary season with The Tempest by William Shakespeare. Stranded on a deserted island with his daughter, a usurped duke is granted his chance at revenge. By invoking a storm, he shipwrecks the man who ruined him. Also among the passengers is the young man who awakens his daughter's first stirrings of love. Performances are held Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., Sundays at 1 p.m. with an additional performance on September 12 at 5:30 p.m. Tickets range from $15 to $43.50. - September 29 - October 9: Jerry Herman Ring Theatre begins its 2010-2011 season with the Tony Award winning musical Urinetown. This comedy is set in a Gotham-like city where a terrible water shortage has led to a government-enforced ban on all private toilets and all bathrooms are regulated by a malevolent and greedy corporation. Weeknights and matinee performances range in price from $16 - $22. Friday and Saturday night performances range in price from $18 - $25. - October 6 - November 7: A world full of lyricism comes to life in Havana in the new play The Color of Desire. Actors' Playhouse presents the world premiere of The Color of Desire by Pulitzer Prize winner Nilo Cruz. Set in 1960 as the revolution heats up, a dashing American businessman hires a young Cuban actress for a role unlike any she's ever played: the woman he loved and lost. Performances take place Wednesdays through Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets for weeknights and matinees are $42, and on Friday and Saturday evenings $50. - October 8 - 31: Laced with cooking classes, swimming lessons and a smorgasbord of illegal drugs, Jack Goes Boating is a touching and warmhearted play about learning how to stay afloat in the deep water of day-to-day living. - October 15 - 23: The Miami Childrens Theater presents the timeless tale of Rapunzel. Locked high in a tower without the hope of escaping, the beautiful Rapunzel spends her time daydreaming someone will come to her rescue. - October 19 - November 19: Actors' Playhouse Theatre for Young Audiences begins its 2010-2011 season with King Midas and His Friends. The audience will join King Midas and his friends Venus, Pandora, Neptune, Pluto, Atlas and Hercules for a musical journey through Greek Mythology. - November 10 - 20: As part of its 2010-2011 season, the Jerry Herman Ring Theatre presents Hedda Gabler by Henrik Ibsen. Hedda Gabler, a fascinating yet controversial heroine, has intrigued audiences for over 100 years. - November 19 - December 12: Watch the Southeastern Premiere of Fizz at New Theatre. Gun-toting Southern belles, cocaine-loving Rockettes, and insane soda execs all take part in this based-on-a-true-story comedy about one of history's biggest flops - the creation of New Coke. - November 30 – December 20: Actors' Playhouse Theatre for Young Audiences adapts the Charles Dickens classic A Christmas Carol, The Musical for children. Enjoy the same classic storyline with a musical twist. The holiday favorite will be enjoyed by the whole family. - December 10 - 18: It's a fairy tale that has jumped into books, plays, films and amusement parks. First produced on Broadway, Peter Pan returns to its theatrical roots. - January 13 - March 12: An award-winning children's book is turned into a musical. Actors' Playhouse Theatre for Young Audiences presents Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. In the play, Alexander knows it's going to be a terrible day when he wakes up - and he's right. See how the day unfolds. - January 19 - February 13: A musical comedy that will spell W-O-N-D-E-R-F-U-L when it kicks off the New Year in 2011 at Actors'' Playhouse. 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a hilarious tale of overachievers' angst chronicles the experience of six adolescent outsiders vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime. Spelling Bee is a quirky yet charming cast of outsiders for whom the spelling bee is the one place where they can stand out and fit in at the same time. - February 16 - 27: The Jerry Herman Ring Theatre presents Big Love, based on Aeschylus' classic Greek tragedy The Suppliant Women. Big Love centers on 50 brides rebelling against their arranged marriages. It's both a somber meditation on the ancient themes of justice and revenge and the hilarious celebration and enduring power of love. - February 17 - 26: A 2,000-year-old play hit the Jerry Herman Ring Theatre. Lysistrata by Aristophanes is set during the 21st year of war between Greece and Sparta. The women of Athens barricade themselves in the Acropolis and shock their warrior husbands by declaring there will be no intimacy until the war has ended. This humoristic, satirical and timeless commentary on politics and war is a portrait of the ageless battle of the sexes. Tickets cost $16 to $22 for weeknights and matinees and $18 to $25 for Friday and Saturday night performances. - March 9 - April 10 : The Actors' Playhouse at Miracle Theatre presents August: Osage County. The play is about is about a father who disappears, a mother caught in the grip of addiction, a marriage unraveling, and a family approaching total meltdown. This Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Tracy Letts electrified audiences in New York with its thrilling story and scathingly intelligent humor. - October 1: Seraphic Fire & the Firebird Chamber Orchestra begins its 9th season with Rachmaninoff's Vespers. Sergei Rachmaninoff's All Night Vigil, is one of the crown jewels of Imperial Russia. - October through May: Enjoy a Live Music Series when you visit the Village of Merrick Park. Gather by The Garden to listen to a multicultural mix of Jazz, Bossanova, World Music, Flamenco, Classics, Pop melodies, Contemporary and Latin Grooves. - October 8: Festival Miami opens the season with a dramatic concert featuring landmark works for orchestra and chorus by Richard Strauss and Francis Poulenc that reflect on life, death the reawakening of faith and transfiguration. The concert will feature soprano Sandra Lopez, Frost School of Music Distinguished Alumna 2010. - October 9: Festival Miami presents Latin Explosion: Hansel and Raul. The Cuban born duo will be performing at the Maurice Gusman Concert Hall at the University of Miami, 1314 Miller Drive, at 8 p.m. Their global hit songs ‘Maria Teresa y Danilo' and ‘Con La Lengua Afuera' became anthems and made them international recording stars. - October 9: The Miami Bach Society continues its 2010-2011 season with a performance from Repast. The group with early music from Boston, makes its first South Florida appearance. - October 10: Festival Miami 2010 pays tribute Frank Loesser's works with its concert Up Close and Personal: Frank Loesser. The centennial celebration will honor the Academy Award, Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winning composer/lyricist of Guys and Dolls, The Most Happy Fella and How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying. The concert features an in-depth conversation with Jo Sullivan Loesser, the original star of The Most Happy Fella. Special guests include Broadway stars Susan Egan, Noah Racey, Ron Raines and musical director Don Pippin. - October 12: Festival Miami 2010 presents a concert featuring works by the award-winning Frost composition faculty. Dennis Kam, Lansing McLoskey, Scott Stinson, and new Frost faculty Charles Mason will showcase their accessible contemporary works that have form, substance, and a definite sense of fractured humor in the performance titled Form and Fractures. - October 13: Jazz vocalist Sunny Wilkinson graces the stage during the Festival Miami 2010 season. - October 14: It's time to celebrate. ¡Celebracion! Is the name of the concert featuring trumpeter and composer Gabriel Alegría. - October 15: Enjoy a piano performance by University of Miami faculty artist Santiago Rodriguez. - October 17: Festival Miami 2010 presents String Quar Tete-A-Tete. Bergonzi String Quartet members Glenn Basham, Scott Flavin, Pamela McConnell and Ross Harbaugh perform some of their favorite string quartet repertoire. They will also be introducing the Stamps String Quartet who are receiving scholarship support from the Stamps Family Charitable Foundation. - October 19: The Frost Wind Ensemble performs a multi-leveled and adventurous wind ensemble orchestration of John Corigliano's Grammy Award winning Mr. Tambourine Man: Seven Poems of Boby Dylan. This performance is part of Festival Miami's 2010 season. You will also hear the world premiere of Tropical Mainframes by Mason Bates, which the Frost Wind Ensemble will perform again at the College Band Directors National Association's conference. - October 20: The Frost School of Music's Department of Theory and Composition hosts their annual Young Composers Showcase. This year's event is inspired by thought-provoking and timeless observations on transitions in life. Admission is free. - October 21: The New York-based Matt Wilson Quartet is coming to Coral Gables to be a part of Festival Miami 2010. Andrew D'Angelo (alto sax and baritone sax), Jeff Lederer (tenor and soprano saxes), Chris Lightcap (acoustic and electric bass), and Matt Wilson (drums) will share the stage with the Stamps Jazz Quintet, sophomores at the Frost School of Music. - October 22: One of the most established contemporary dance companies in Southeastern USA is celebrating its 28th anniversary with a very special appearance at Festival Miami. The Momentum Dance Company will entertain with a night of modern dance featuring beautifully choreographed works and a dance choreographed to the composition Window by Frost School of Music faculty Dennis Kam, which is inspired by paintings of Miro. - October 23: Three-time Grammy-nominated Tiempo Libre will be gracing the stage at Festival Miami 2010. Enjoy a joyful performance featuring the timba, an irresistible, dance-inducing mix of high-voltage Latin jazz and the seductive rhythms of son. This concert is dedicated to the era of Cuban big band, with works by Xavier Cugat, Beny More, Perez Prado, and Chano Pozo/Dizzy Gillespie; it will also feature traditional Cuban music (cha-cha-chas, sones, and congas) arranged especially for Tiempo Libre and orchestra. - October 24: The four-time Grammy nominees, Trout Fishing in America with Keith Grimwood and Ezra Idlet will appeal to the whole family with their performance as part of Festival Miami. - October 27: Festival Miami presents its most popular performance, Songwriters Showcase. Presented by Bruce Hornsby Creative American Music Program, a panel of judges will critique and decide who is the best songwriter among UM students. Treat yourself to an evening of fresh and youthful new music. The winning songwriter gets to open the concert the following night. - October 28: If you love music by The Supremes, The Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, and Smokey Robinson and The Miracles, then you'll love this hit-filled concert featuring the Motown era songs of Lamont Dozier. Sing along to such favorites as Baby Love, Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch; Baby I Need Your Loving; Stop! In the Name of Love; Back in My Arms Again; Come See About Me, Where Did Our Love Go and Give Me Just a Little More Time. - October 29: The world famous flautist Nestor Torres will take the stage at Maurice Gusman Concert Hall, 1314 Miller Drive, for a wonderful concert. Torres will perform with Frost School of Music students from the Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra. The program will include a timeless Baroque concerto for flute, strings and harpsichord, the ever-popular Ibert Flute Concerto, and selections from works such as El Condor Pasa, Vuelvo Al Sur and Soñando Con Puerto Rico. - October 30: Join the Frost Concert Jazz Band and guest artist Wycliffe Gordon for a rousing closing concert that salutes the giants of jazz. - November 5: Seraphic Fire's musicians take the audience on an intimate musical journey, answering the question “Why do I sing?” The concert titled His Eye Is on the Sparrow combines freely weaved together hymns, folk tunes and popular songs to offer a glimpse into the musical upbringing of its musicians. - November 15: The Frost School of Music Choral Studies Program at the University of Miami features a concert titled Timeless. - December 5: Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden presents its 17th year of Holiday Music in the Garden. - December 10: Seraphic Fire celebrates the holiday season with their concert A Seraphic Fire Christmas, the group's most popular program. This year's concert celebrates the joys of the season with English, French and American carols performed by candlelight. - February 10: Seraphic Fire will perform a documentary in music which traces one Jewish family's personal diaspora from Babylon through India and Singapore to Australia, and finally Miami Beach. Cantor George Mordecai with the help of Seraphic Fire and traditional Indian and Iraqi instrumentalists will tell the story of this journey titled Out of Babylon. - February 21: The Frost School of Music Choral Studies Program at the University of Miami features Man, Myth, Music, a concert of Irish choral music. - September 26: Venetian Pool has gone to the dogs. The City celebrates America's favorite pet by giving them access o the pool.
